In God We Trust

Time: 8:00am - 2:30pm
Date: September 21, 2024
Location: 756 Telluride St, Aurora, CO

All Knights support the Archdiocese of Denver’s “In God We Trust” program. The program was initiated in September 2019, and was designed by a group of Deacons, who themselves were veterans. They teamed up with the Knights of Columbus to reach out to veterans who had fallen away from the church and their faith, and we were hoping to draw them back into the fold of the Church. Every year since, the event has been held at the Colorado Freedom Memorial in Aurora. A mass is celebrated with music being providing by the U.S. Air Force Academy Catholic choir coupled with a guest speaker. The event culminates with a complimentary lunch for all present provided by the Knights of Columbus. Any attendee is provided access to clergy and limited Veteran’s Services.

The IGWT committee again is preparing for the 6th annual event that will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Colorado Freedom Memorial, 756 Telluride St, Aurora. The program will again consist of an outdoor mass being celebrated by Fr James Spahn with music again provided by the U.S. Air Force Academy Catholic Choir.  A complimentary lunch will be provided and served by the Knights of Columbus.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

First - promoting the event with the attached flyer providing event’s logistics to your parish communities. If there are veteran’s groups/facilities at your parish, provide them or any of your personal contacts inviting them to the event. Remember, the focus of the program is for veterans who have fallen away from their faith, but it is also an opportunity to celebrate your own faith with veterans and besides reaching out to those who have fallen away.

Second - financial support. Financial assistance is needed to offset the costs of food and supplies. Costs are obviously dependent on the number of attendees but can be accomplished by raising $1,500 to $2,000. If assemblies and/or councils would consider donating $50, $75, $100, or $200, we can easily raise the funds. Excess funds are donated to the Archdiocese specifically start-up expenses incurred for the following year. Every penny goes toward the program.

Third - manpower. Assemblies, councils, and individuals can help by donating a few hours assisting in set-up or clean-up for the event. We have a commitment for the grill and fronting of funds necessary for the purchase of food and supplies, but any help is welcome. If nothing else, being on the grounds of this beautiful memorial park and seeing the tributes to those who gave their all for our country are worth it.

As committee persons, Ron Polomsky and I would like to identify those committed to attending or financial support to plan accordingly. To provide financial support, checks should be made out to the “Master of the District” and sent to:
