On Feb. 25, Pope Francis officially declared Father Emil Kapaun, a U.S. Army chaplain who gave his life serving fellow soldiers in a prisoner-of-war camp during the Korean War, “Venerable” — thereby advancing his cause for canonization. For more than half a century, Father Kapaun’s remains were believed to be lost in Korea.
